The first proper car review on Jalopnik in... MONTHS! Not the boring to death copy/paste that is the Buyer’s Guide no one even dares to sign (“Jalopnik Staff”). Actual proper driving!! It made me want to drive what is nothing more that an optioned rental car, and that means a lot as far as I’m concerned, because I HATE this kind of car! It reminds me of my time when I was tracking my 4-cylinder 1997 Mazda 626. Boring saloon car, giving me the time of my life!

So as your regular commenter who tend to enjoy the FP less and less like many other people around here, I have to give credit where credit is due: That was awesome! Being given a boring car like this to review and ending up making the review THIS interesting shows a job really well done! Thanks Mr Orlove!

Raph is my favorite writer. Cool HOTD stuff, fantastic long reads, and he seems to have a greater appreciation for cars of all shapes and sizes, rather than just “enthusiast cars” (as evidenced by the above post).

He does seem like a great guy ideed... He looks a little like a bearded Tintin though. For some reason I can’t stop thinking about Tintin when looking at him.

I like the Avalon. It's decently quick for what it is and the ride quality is fantastic.

I have to say I have never driven one... It’s just how I feel about its look in general. Makes me think of a Ford Fusion that ended up having a kid with a 3rd gen Prius...

We rented a ‘16 with exactly 15 miles on it and took it for a 600 mile trip a few weeks ago. It was surprisingly powerful and stupidly comfy for 4 people.
